HAZWOPER – 8 Hour, 24 Hour, 40 Hour

8-Hour Refresher

SRP Environmental regularly conducts annual 8-Hour HAZWOPER refresher courses as required by OSHA (29 CFR 1910.120). These courses can be taught at our training facilities or on-site and are necessary for all 24 and 40-hour Hazwoper certified employees in order to retain certification from year to year. This course is intended only for previously trained emergency responders and focuses on regulatory changes, new techniques and procedures, and advanced hazardous waste operations and emergency response tactics.

24-Hour First Responder Awareness Level

24-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response is the most basic level of first responder training. The regulatory standard, 29 CFR 1910.120, applies to all employees who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous materials, including hazardous waste, and who are engaged in one of the following:

• Clean-up operations involving hazardous substances that are conducted at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites;
• Corrective actions involving clean-up operations at sites covered by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA);
• Voluntary clean-up at sites recognized by a governing body as uncontrolled hazardous waste sites;
• Operations involving hazardous wastes that are conducted at treatment, storage and disposal sites;
• Emergency response operations for releases of, or substantial threats of releases of, hazardous substances regardless of the location of the hazard.

The 24-Hour course focuses on the chemical and physical properties of hazardous substances and trains employees on ways to identify associated hazards and protect themselves from threats. This course does not certify employees to defensively or offensively respond to an emergency spill.

40-Hour First Responder Operations Level

40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response is the second level of first responder training. The regulatory standard, 29 CFR 1910.120, applies to all employees who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous materials, including hazardous waste, and who are engaged in one of the following:

• Clean-up operations involving hazardous substances that are conducted at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites;
• Corrective actions involving clean-up operations at sites covered by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA);

The 40-Hour course focuses on the chemical and physical properties of hazardous substances and teaches employees how to identify associated hazards and protect themselves from threats. This course does not certify first responders to defensively respond to emergency spills involving hazardous materials.
